Men’s basketball to continue chasing 20-win year

Men’s basketball (16-8, 5-6 MAC) will face off against Bowling Green State University (13-11, 4-7 MAC) at the Convocation Center on Tuesday.

The teams last met on Feb. 7, 2015, when the Falcons were able to fend off a late rally by the Huskies to pull out the 56-46 victory.

NIU senior guard Travon Baker led the Huskies with 20 points in the game, while former forward Richaun Holmes and former guard Jehvon Clarke each scored a team-high 18 points for the Falcons.

The Huskies are 13-1 at home this season, with their only loss coming against University at Buffalo on Feb. 2. NIU lost both games to Bowling Green last season and last defeated the Falcons on Mar. 12, 2014, 54-51.

Bowling Green

• Bowling Green is third in the MAC in defensive rebounds, averaging 27.3 per game.

• Tenth in scoring offense in the MAC, averaging 71.8 points per game.

• Fifth in scoring defense in the MAC, averaging 70.3 points per game.

• Junior guard Zack Denny averages 7.4 rebounds per game, seventh in the MAC. Denny is ninth in the MAC in steals, swiping 1.3 per game. Denny averages 5.8 defensive rebounds per game, fourth in the MAC.

• Junior guard Ismail Ali is sixth in the MAC in assists/turnover ratio behind NIU’s Travon Baker, with a 1.9 ratio.

• Senior forward Spencer Parker is 12th in the MAC in scoring, averaging 13.9 points per game.

NIU

• NIU is second in the MAC in scoring defense, averaging 66.5 points per game and is second in scoring margin with a +7.7 margin.

• First in rebounding margin in the MAC, with a +6.1 margin.

• Fourth in assists in the MAC.

• Sophomore center Marin Maric is tied for fourth in the MAC in rebounding, averaging 8.3 per game.

• Maric is seventh in blocked shots, averaging 1.2 per game.

• Baker is fifth in the MAC in assists, averaging four per game.
