NIU Meterologist predicts short break from winter temps

This week is going to warm up, but not as much as expected, said NIU Meteorologist Gilbert Sebenste.

This past Sunday saw 3.8 inches of snowfall, providing a layer of snow that prevents the air from warming up as quickly. Predictions before the snow showed the temperature highs near 70 degrees. New predictions suggest that Friday will have highs in the upper 40s with clear skies and winds up to 30 miles per hour, making temperatures feel as if they are in the 30s. Saturday and Sunday will continue the mid-40s trend will light winds creeping into Sunday.

A cold front is expected to arrive Sunday night into Monday morning pushing the highs down to the 30s with mid-teens at night.

“Enjoy the three day stretch of mild weather while you can,” Sebenste said.
