Rihanna Drops “Work” with Drake off ANTi

Rihanna and Drake have teamed up on “Work,” the first single from Rihanna’s newly-released album, ANTi.

ANTi, which can only be streamed or downloaded through Tidal, contains 16 new songs with only two features- SZA on the opening track, “Consideration,” and Drake on “Work.”  Rihanna’s harmonic voice makes the repeating, barely-there lyrics of “Work” seem more fulfilling with her soulful voice.

The chorus’ lyrics lend the song an island vibe, especially over the subtle up-tempo beat.

“He said me haffi/ Work, work, work, work, work, work/ He see me do mi/ Dirt, dirt, dirt, dirt, dirt, dirt/ So me put in/ Work, work, work, work, work, work,”

Drake is, as per usual, apologizing for his aloofness in a relationship, and praising his lover for her hard-working attitude during his verse.

“You need to get done, done, done, done at work, come over/ We just need to slow the motion/ Don’t give that away to no one/ Long distance, I need you/ When I see potential I just gotta see it through.”

Overall the song is chill and clean but lacks the power of her other recent releases, “FourFiveSeconds,” and “Bitch Better Have My Money.” For the first single off an album she’s been promoting heavily, the song is pretty underwhelming.
