Wrestling prepares for battle with Central Michigan

By Raven Boyd

Wrestling (2-2, 0-0 MAC) is preparing to battle against Central Michigan tonight after having nine members of the team place at the Michigan State Open and another six at the Lindenwood Open last month.

Redshirt senior Arthur Bunce will return after winning his first tournament of the season in the heavyweight division. Bunce will look to continue last Saturday’s five-match win streak.

Redshirt sophomore Steve Bleise and junior Shawn Scott also have a chance to be key contributors for the Huskies in today’s matchup.

Bleise and Scott are both ranked in the top 10 of their respective weight classes. Scott will have a long season ahead of him as he works to make it to his second consecutive appearance in the NCAA National Championship.

Bleise became the first Huskie since 2012 to be awarded the Mid-American Conference Wrestler of the Week after taking home the title at the Michigan State Open in early November. He will return to the mat again to compete against reigning MAC Champion Zach Horan. Bleise defeated Horan by a 5-3 decision in a match earlier this season.

Matches will begin at 7 p.m. at the Convocation Center. The Huskies could move to 3-2 with a victory.
