Sophomore Chandler Kinley practices last week as volleyball prepared for games against both Central and Eastern Michigan. The Huskies went undefeated on the weekend, sweeping both teams.

Volleyball (13-10, 9-2 MAC) swept both Eastern Michigan (12-12, 4-7 MAC) and Central Michigan (10-15, 5-7 MAC) over the weekend.

Eastern Michigan

The Huskies were hitting strong kills early on that advanced their score, making it difficult for Eastern Michigan to defend its side of the court. The kills forced errors by Eastern Michigan and they were never able to close the gap. NIU had the advantage and won the set 25-19 as a result.

The Huskies remained consistent with their play in the second set, going on a run on that gave them a nine point lead at one point.

Eastern Michigan was not able to get out of the early hole and NIU won the set 25-18.

The Huskies totaled 14 kills in the third set, continuing their hitting from the previous sets. They went on to win 25-19 and sweep the match.

Central Michigan

Central Michigan held the lead over the Huskies early in the match, but NIU was able to respond and steal the set 25-21.

The Huskies went into an attack mode in the second set, charging the ball hard and making things tough for the Chippewas. This turned into success as they won another set 25-21.

NIU totaled 21 kills in the the final set, jumping out to an early lead and not allowing Central Michigan to make its way back into the game. The Chippewas were unable to score often due to an array of kills. The Huskies won the set 25-13, taking the match and sweeping both games on the weekend. They’ve now won three-straight games and eight of their last 10.

The team will move on to play Toledo at 7 p.m. on Friday at Victor E. Court on ESPN3.
