DeKalb | Electric rock band Upper Black Eddy will headline at the House Café for the first time Sunday.

Upper Black Eddy has been the musical project of frontman and lead vocalist Adrian Davis, who started his rise to fame as a street performer in Chicago. After playing with a wide array of musicians, his music became a blend of Latin, blues and soul, while staying true to his unique rock sound.

Davis cites everyone from Santana to STS9 to Prince as his influences. His band has a nontraditional setup; it features Davis on guitar and vocals, along with a DJ and a drummer.

Senior psychology major Angelina McNeela has been friends with Adrian Davis for years before recently making the transition to the band’s manager. McNeela said the band is rising quickly in fame.

Upper Black Eddy performed on popular ABC 7 program “Windy City Live” last summer and will travel to London in January to work with a producer that has Led Zeppelin and Aerosmith on his resume. This will be the band’s first performance in DeKalb.

“I think the coolest part about watching doors open like dominoes for Adrian and the band is watching him maintain his humility throughout the process,” McNeela said.

Doors at the House Café open at 6 p.m., and Upper Black Eddy will take the stage around 10 p.m.

“It’s always fun making a little trip for a performance,” said Adrian Davis, who will be travelling from Chicago. “Attendees can expect to salsa, twerk and headbang at the same time.”

Opening acts will include the Aaron Williams Band, The Giving Moon and Collin Berg.
