DeKalb police: Monday robbery was falsely reported

An alleged robbery that was reported to have taken place Monday night was determined to be a false report.

A juvenile reported to the police she was approached from behind by an individual who reached into the juvenile’s sweater and took money and headphones at around 8:50 p.m. at 926 Greenbrier Road, according to an NIU Safety Bulletin. DeKalb police later determined the report to be false, said John Petragallo, DeKalb Police Department deputy chief.

“The statement that [the DeKalb Police] obtained was that the money was lost and there was no way of retaining the money,” Petragallo said.

Police investigating the incident are contemplating pressing charges, Petragallo said.

A DeKalb man was arrested last week for filing a false report of a robbery in a separate incident that was reported to have occurred Sept. 23 on the 800 block of Edgebrook Drive.

Sean Jaworski, 20, faces charges of misdemeanor disorderly conduct. Jaworski told police he was approached from behind by two individuals, one of whom reached into his pocket and took his wallet, according to the police report of the incident. Jaworski later told police the robbery did not take place, according to the report.
