Volleyball (12-10, 8-2 MAC) saw its five-game winning streak come to a halt as it fell short to Kent State on Friday, but came back to defeat Ohio on Saturday to split the weekend.

Kent State

The Huskies came together to execute early on and held an 8-5 lead. NIU stretched the lead to 16-8 after back-and-forth play from both teams.

The Flashes were able to make dents in the score, but eventually fell 25-22.

NIU got off to another quick start in the second set, taking an early 11-2 lead. Kent State was able to make a comeback, tying the set at 15 midway through.

The Flashes were able to continue to their run, taking a 20-16 lead and eventually winning the set 25-21.

The third set began much differently than the first two as Kent State led 8-7. The Huskies fought to steal the lead in the set, but weren’t able to take over with Kent State holding an 18-15 lead near the end. The Flashes went on a big run to close out the set, taking a 25-19 victory.

The score was tied at the start of the fourth and final set at 5-5. Things remained close between both teams for the majority of the set, but Kent State was able to edge it out in the end, winning 25-23 to take the match.

Ohio

The score remained close throughout the entire first set and was deadlocked at 19 as the end approached. NIU was able to push for the last run of the set, winning 25-21.

The Huskies dominated the next two sets, winning both by at least 11. They took the second set 25-14 and the third by a score of 25-12, giving them the match win.

NIU will continue its season this week with games against both Eastern and Central Michigan. The Huskies will return home for a three-game stand following the trip to Michigan.

Game one against Eastern Michigan will take place at 6 p.m. on Friday in Ypsilanti, Mich. and game 2 against Central will take place at 6 p.m. on Saturday in Mount Pleasant, Mich.
