Fire destroys home of Sycamore family

A Sycamore family of seven was displaced after a fire destroyed its two-story home Saturday.

The Sycamore Fire Department responded to a call for a possible fire on W. Exchange Street in Sycamore and arrived to find heavy smoke rising from the attic area, according to a Sycamore Fire Department news release. The occupants, two adults and five children, were not in the residence when the firefighters conducted a search, according to the Sycamore Fire Department.

The fire, which was under control in about an hour after firefighters arrived, caused an estimated $175,000 in damage to the house and $75,000 to the contents, according to the Sycamore Fire Department. The cause of the fire has been ruled accidental, according to the Sycamore Fire Department.

The family is receiving assistance from the American Red Cross, family and friends.
