October 29, 2015
The darkness is calling, and so are scary movies. These films are sure to make you cringe, hide behind your blanket or cry.
1. “Deliver Us from Evil”
An NYPD Sargent has seen his fair share of dark and twisted events — almost enough to poison his soul. As Ralph Sarchie, played by Eric Bana, investigates bizarre incidents, he finds they all have something in common and seem particularly demonic. Sarchie creates an alliance with a renegade priest who tries to convince him real evil and demons exist. I may or may not have walked out of the theatre mid-movie, crying. This is definitely a movie that will make you cringe.
2. “Halloween 2” (2009)
A year after escaping death at the hands of the infamous Michael Myers, Laurie Strode, played by Jamie Lee Curtis, is at a breaking point. Myers is determined to have a family reunion that involves lots of gore and blood. Driven by the visions of their dead mother, Laurie fights for her life. Because Rob Zombie is the director, you can be sure to feel your stomach turn in fear and disgust.
3. “The Strangers”
“The Strangers” is perfect for a night at home, especially if you are alone. This movie is about a couple who think they are visiting a family vacation home for some relaxation. Little do they know their vacation will be full of pure torture and surprise. Besides the many mysterious and dangerous visitors, a best friend is accidently killed, and the two are left to struggle for survival. Many different people appear at the door to taunt the couple, making their night an eventful one.
4. “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” (2003)
Although the movie has multiple remakes, “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” featuring Jessica Biel and Matthew McConaughey, is the best one yet. Similar to the other movies, a group of young travelers come across a decrepit house while driving through Texas; however, the house belongs to none other than Leather Face, a masked killer and deranged maniac. Leather face does anything he can to execute everyone on his property.
5. “Insidious: Chapter 2”
“Insidious: Chapter 2” is the movie for you if you’re looking for chills to run down your spine. Soon after a family of three is recovering from the possession of their son, it becomes apparent that something is still seriously wrong with not only the son, but the husband, too. If you’re into paranormal situations, this movie is full of them. There are many scenes with sensory details that will keep your eyes glued to the screen.
