Volleyball (11-9, 7-1 MAC) is set to take on Kent State and Ohio this weekend.

Though the Huskies are riding a five-game winning streak and the season is coming down the stretch this weekend, the girls plan to treat their games like any other, said junior middle blocker Lauren Zielinski.

“We’re definitely still excited, but we won’t let it take away from our focus,” Zielinski said.

Last year’s Homecoming game was played away, but the fact that the team will be home this time “won’t make the girls work any harder,” said sophomore libero Anna Brereton. “We work our hardest always.”

Brereton and Zielinski both put up big stats for the Huskies last weekend.

“After having a good weekend, my expectations of how I will perform this weekend have risen,” Brereton said. “Each weekend expectations rise and I plan to keep getting better.”

Zielinski credited her play last weekend to her teammates.

“Great sets from Pookie [Gonzalez] helped set me up for the kill,” Zielinski. “A fighting and considerate mentality will lead to weekend success. If we have it in our minds to come out strong and play for each other, we will win. We need to come out strong from the start with a lot of energy and keep competing throughout the whole game so that mindset does not break.”

The team kicks off the weekend at 7 p.m. Friday against Kent State. The last game of the weekend against Ohio will be played at 7 p.m. Saturday. Both games will take place at Victor E. Court and can be watched on ESPN3.
