By Northern Star staff

Insane Inflatable 5K will hold a five km race Saturday at the Convocation Center.

The inflatable 5K is a mixed terrain 5K with an inflatable obstacle course throughout the race, according to Insane Inflatable 5K’s website. The race will be held in starting “waves” at 15 minute intervals from 8:45 a.m. to 11 a.m. and then half hour intervals from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Registration fees are $64 until 11:59 p.m. Friday and $75 on the event day. Participants can also purchase an All Access Pass for $100 that allows them to sign up for any wave time, even if it’s full. All Access Pass participants will also receive a $20 merchandise credit to use at the on-site merchandise tent.

Participants must be 42” tall, and there is no minimum age to register. Team registration is also available. Participants have the option to pick up their packet, which includes a race bib and wave wristband, 8 a.m. to noon at Peak Sports Club, 4401 Peak Drive in Loves Park or 1 to 7 p.m. at Ducky’s Formal Wear, 250 E. Lincoln Highway in order to save time on Saturday. Spectators are free for this event.

Insane Inflatable 5K holds races in different locations around the country to benefit a variety of charities. For the DeKalb race, the selected charity partner is the Nikolas Ritschel Foundation. Ritschel was diagnosed with synovial sarcoma right before his 18th birthday and realized that sarcoma patients around his age couldn’t take advantage of kids programs and were too young to have other resources. The foundation was created in Ritschel’s memory to raise money that goes toward enriching the lives of sarcoma patients ages 18-24, according to Insane Inflatable 5K’s website.
