Preliminary autopsy results from the DeKalb County Coroner find Oluwarotimi Okedina died from “closed injuries that he sustained as a result from the fall.”

Okedina, 19, fell from the 11th floor of a tower at Stevenson Hall on Friday. He later died at Kishwaukee Hospital, according to a Sunday email from Eric Weldy, vice president of Student Affairs and Enrollment management.

“I and the entire university community are deeply saddened by this tragic news,” Weldy said, according to the email.

The Coroner’s office awaits results from a toxicology test. The cause and manner of his death will be released after the results are received, according to a DeKalb County Coroner’s Office news release.

NIU police continue to investigate Okedina’s death.
