Dramatic Studios finds NIU talents

DeKalb | Dramatic Studios, a new organization at NIU, held auditions this weekend to help students achieve their performing arts goals.
Dramatic Studios is an organization that specializes in acting, dance and singing, among other things. The goal of the organization is to bring entertainment and creativity to people all over, said Dramatic Studios member Tay Alexander.
Out of the many people who auditioned, three freshmen passed. One of the freshmen, Zora Spikner, 19, of DeKalb, said she has always believed in everyone working together to make a dream happen.
“My goal in this group is to put forth my efforts and talents to help the group grow,” Spikner said. “This is the same for any group activity I become a part of.”
Dramatic Studios also accepts those who are interested in areas beyond acting or singing, said Jason Warrior, junior media studies major and the organization’s founder.
“If you like to design, create or do anything of that nature, we’d love to have you,” Warrior said. “We want to help people as much as we can and use what we’ve been taught from our professors.”
Diamond Weakley, freshman early childhood education major, said she was scared when she decided to audition for Dramatic Studios because she gets nervous when the spotlight is on her.
“It feels great to be in this new group of people because I found out it was more people in the group who were just like me — happy and love to have fun,” Weakley said.
Feshman kinesiology major Kenyona Bailey said she would like to use her time at Dramatic Studios to accomplish her goal of being an actress.
“I plan on bringing my talent to NIU and try to make this organization as strong as possible,” Bailey said.
Warrior said although Dramatic Studios is not as recognized as it would like to be, the members of the club are doing something they love.
