Event Guide: July 6

Beat the heat and enjoy these indoor and nighttime events:

Monday

Grab your instruments and head to the House Cafe, 263 E. Lincoln Highway, for Open Mic Night hosted by MC Sweet Boy at 7:30 p.m. Entertainers of all types are invited to participate in the free event.

Tuesday

The DeKalb Municipal Band will perform its weekly concert at 8 p.m. at Dee Palmer Band Shell in Hopkins Park, 1403 Sycamore Rd. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early and bring a picnic dinner for a full night of fun.

Wednesday

The House Cafe, 263 E. Lincoln Highway, will hold a blues jam session hosted by the Joey J Saye Trio at 8 p.m. The jam session is free and is open for both amateur and professional blues musicians to participate in.

Thursday

The Neverly Brothers will perform as part of the Sycamore Park District Concert Series at 7 p.m. at the Good Tymes Shelter on the corner of Airport Rd. & Rt. 64. The free concert will feature American rock from the 1950s and trivia between songs.

Friday

Stagecoach Players, 126 S. Fifth St. will be present a performance of “Harvey,” a play about an invisible 6-foot rabbit named Harvey. The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. and tickets can be purchased for $12 at StageCoachers.com.

Saturday

A benefit concert and dinner event will be held for Paulette Sherman, who was recently diagnosed with a rare brain tumor. The event will include food, drinks, live music and a silent auction of locally donated items from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at O’Leary’s Restaurant & Pub, 260 E. Lincoln Highway. Tickets can be purchased for $10 at the door. All proceeds will go to the Sherman family.

Sunday

The Drum Corps will perform Tour of Champions for the 35th year at 7:30 p.m. at the Huskie Stadium. The performance will feature the top 12 drum corps groups in the nation including Phantom Regiment and The Cavaliers. Tickets are $24 to $74 Ticketmaster.com.
