Whether it’s too hot to turn on the oven or you’re stuck inside the residence halls, you can still add some sweetness to your day with these do-it-yourself summer treats.
Chocolate Covered Strawberries
Chilled chocolatey strawberries are a great sweet treat for summer.
What you need:
- A plate
- Twelve large strawberries
- A knife (optional)
- Candy melts (preferably milk chocolate)
- One microwave-safe container
- A cookie sheet
- Prepare 12 strawberries by washing them and cutting off the stems if you don’t want them.
- Place the candy melts and in a plastic container and microwave for 30 seconds. Continue to microwave in 30 second intervals until melted and stir until it is silky.
- Dip each strawberry into the chocolate and twirl until the strawberry is halfway covered.
- Place each chocolate-covered strawberry on a cookie sheet and refrigerate overnight or until chocolate hardens.
Fruit Kabobs
If you’re a fruit lover and can’t pick just one to eat, this treat is right for you.
What you need:
- Assorted fruit (I used pineapples, cantaloupe and strawberries)
- A knife
- Wooden skewers
- Lay out all the fruit you’d like to use then cut them into slices so that they’re big enough to fit onto the skewer.
- Put eight to nine pieces of fruit on each skewer, alternating types of fruit.
Fruit Parfaits
These berry filled parfaits are the perfect combination of salty and sweet.
What You Need:
- One blueberry yogurt cup
- Twelve raspberries, blueberries
- One granola bar
- One small glass or plastic bowl
- Open one cup of blueberry yogurt and place half of it into a bowl.
- Wash the raspberries and blueberries and place half of them on top of the yogurt.
- Add the rest of the yogurt on top of the fruit, then add one final layer of berries.
- Open a granola bar and break it into tiny pieces. Sprinkle it over the bowl and enjoy.
