Event Guide: June 15

There’s still plenty to do in DeKalb this summer. Check out these local events:

Tuesday

Need somewhere to grab a few drinks and watch the FIFA Women’s World Cup with friends? Fatty’s Pub & Grille, 1312 W. Lincoln Highway, will show each match this week, including the USA vs. Nigeria match at 7 p.m.

Wednesday

Whoever says baseball is all fun and games hasn’t talked to Jahred Adelman, particle physicist and knuckleball enthusiast. Adelman will talk about the science behind baseball at The Physics of Baseball 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Eduardo’s, 214 E. Lincoln Highway.

Thursday

The Garage Orchestra Ensemble will perform as a part of the Egyptian Theatre’s Live Lunch Music Series. The event will take place 12-1:30 p.m. at the Van Buer Plaza across from the Egyptian Theatre, 135 N. Second St.

Grab your girlfriends and head to O’Leary’s Restaurant and Pub for the fifth annual Girls Night Out. The event will feature raffles, sidewalk vendors and a Go Red For Women fundraiser for the American Heart Association. Girls Night Out will take place 5-8 p.m. outside of O’Leary’s, 260 E. Lincoln Highway.

Friday

Start your weekend off calm and relaxed and attend Friday Morning Yoga with instructor Cher Ladford. The class begins 9 a.m. at the House Cafe, 263 E. Lincoln Highway and costs $5. The first class is free.

Saturday

The DeKalb County Community Gardens and members of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church will hold the first of four Thrive Farmers’ Market events 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 900 Normal Road. Residents will be able to pay the price they want for fresh produce and profits will go toward the DeKalb County Community Gardens.

Sunday

Dance Dimensions’ A Night at the Movies, a dance event set to movie soundtracks, will be held at 2 p.m. in the Egyptian Theatre, 135 N. Second St. Soundtracks range from action films to Disney movies. Tickets are $18 and can be purchased at EgyptianTheatre.org.

Alternative rock will take over the House Cafe, 263 E. Lincoln Highway. Local musicians The Belvederes, Early June and Pleural Hall will perform at 7 p.m. Admission costs $6.
