DeKalb rushes to help after tornado

The tornado relief and cleanup effort demonstrated by the people of DeKalb has been nothing short of amazing.

NIU sent public safety personnel to areas that were hit the hardest by the April 9 tornado that killed two and injured 22 in DeKalb and Ogle counties and a day later students headed to Belvidere to help a zoo.

Organizations like Noodles and Company are holding fundraisers to help. Noodles and Company, 2561 Sycamore Road, will donate half of its sales 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. today to the local chapter of the American Red Cross.

People were so eager to donate supplies the Police Department announced on April 13 donation sites were overwhelmed with supplies and requested people give money instead. More than 800 people volunteered over the weekend to help clean up Fairdale, according to a DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office news release.

The Editorial Board appreciates the effort by the people of DeKalb to help their neighbors in their time of need and hopes to see a continued effort to help the victims. Now is the time to donate to the relief effort.
