NIU women’s golf: Huskies finish 14th at Bearcat Spring Classic

By Patrick Smith

Women’s golf placed 14th out of 17 teams at the Bearcat Spring Classic over the weekend.

The Huskies carded a 961 on the Los Colinas Course in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. They finished 69 strokes behind Memphis, the winner of the tournament.

Sophomore Lena Gautier had a strong showing and led the way for the Huskies. She finished in 18th place and posted a score of 231 (80, 75, 76). She finished 12 strokes behind Bradley’s Danielle Lemek, who won the tournament with a score of 219.

“We just didn’t put together three good rounds,” said head coach Kim Kester. “We didn’t hit enough greens and missed a lot of puts, which led to big numbers.

“We’re still confident about the rest of the season. We have a week off before the next tournament. That will give us a chance to revamp.”
