NIU softball: Huskies swept in Sunday doubleheader

By Northern Star staff

Softball suffered two losses to a pair of Indiana teams Sunday at the Dome at Rosemont.

The Huskies (4-8) were blanked by the Indiana-Purdue Indianapolis Jaguars in the first game, losing 5-0. In the second game of the twinbill they were edged out by the Butler Bulldogs, 3-2.

In the loss to IUPUI, the Huskies were held to six baserunners. They registered three hits and drew three walks, but they couldn’t push any runs across the plate. The Jaguars scored four runs in the first inning and never looked back.

The Huskies’ comeback attempt against the Bulldogs came up short as NIU trailed 3-0 after five innings. Junior designated hitter Emily Naegele drove in one run on a sacrifice fly and senior pitcher Jessica Sturm doubled in a second run in the sixth inning, but the Huskies failed to score any more runs.
