College Life Hacks: Day-old pizza, hot dogs, fancy ramen

Pizza

Whether you prefer pizza, hot dogs or ramen, these life hacks will help you prepare the highest quality of your favorite college foods.

Pizza

We all love pizza. The only problem is pizza tends to only taste good when it’s fresh, but it’s a mess after sitting in the refrigerator overnight and being reheated.

No longer will the pizza gods shake their heads at you for throwing away leftover pizza; I have found a way to make any pizza taste as fresh as it did the day you got it.

Items you will need:

• Pizza

• Plate

• Cup of water

What you do:

1. Grab a piece of pizza that makes your mouth water.

2. Place it on a plate.

3. Put the plate in the microwave, but do not start it.

4. Get a cup and fill it with water.

5. Place the cup in the microwave alongside the pizza. The steam from the water will keep the crust from becoming hard and will keep the pizza fluffy and moist.

6. Run the microwave for about 45 seconds.

7. Repeat step five until your pizza is as hot as you like it.

Now you are the proud owner of delicious, fresh-tasting day-old pizza. Eat up, students.

Hot dogs

Sometimes not having a stove sucks. Not having one takes away a vast majority of food options and forces you to think outside the box when preparing food. Well, I have thought outside the box and found something amazing. I love a properly cooked hotdog and found out a way to make them without a stove.

Items you will need: coffee maker, package of hotdogs and buns

1. Clean out your coffee maker of any leftover coffee grounds. You do not want to have coffee-flavored hotdogs. (That could be a new fulfilling energy snack, but it is not what we want for today.)

2. Pour the water through the filter basket at least twice to make sure it is cleaned.

3. Place the hotdogs in the basket.

4. Fill the coffee maker with only water and press brew. Let the water fill up the pot.

5. Place the dogs in the pot for 20 to 30 minutes. This is a caution to make sure the hotdogs are properly cooked.

6. After the hotdogs are hot, remove the hot dogs from the pot and the pot from the hot plate. Place the buns on the hot plate for a minute to warm those up.

You will be the envy of your friends when you arrive to the party with hotdogs for all.

Ramen is a universal food for college students; however, I sometimes want to feel like I am eating more than just a plain bowl of noodles. I want to feel like my noodles are top dollar and should be served in fancy restaurants in remote parts of the world. I have found ways to make plain ramen into spectacular ramen.

Fancy ramen

Items you will need: ramen noodles, diced green peppers, an egg, garlic and onion powder and black pepper

1. Boil your ramen in water like you normally do.

2. Before turning the stove on, add the peppers, garlic and onion powder and ramen noodle flavor package. This will blend everything together and ensure the flavors properly mix.

3. Turn the stove on and allow the noodles and seasonings to mix.

4. When the noodles are almost finished they will be soft. At this point add the black pepper to the top and allow that to mix.

5. Add the cracked egg to the noodles. The egg can be scrambled separately or boiled, but I just crack that bad boy on top and allow it to cook with the noodles.

6. Allow the noodles to sit for a few minutes before pouring them straight into the bowl.

The smell coming from your noodles should make your mouth water. You are now a master chef who deserves a stop on the TV show “Hell’s Kitchen.” Play around with seasonings to suit your taste and enjoy your gourmet ramen.
