Claudette Day, track and field sophomore multi-events athlete, was named MAC Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, the conference announced today.

Day topped her own school indoor record for the 60-meter hurdles Saturday at the Orange and Blue Open in Urbana. Her time of 8.34 seconds broke her previous record of 8.43 seconds, which she set Jan. 31 at the Jack Johnson Invitational in Minneapolis, Minn.

Day also took second place in the high jump (1.70 meters) and finished ninth in the 60-meter dash (7.92 seconds) over the weekend.

“It’s exciting,” Day said of receiving the award. “I’ve been working towards it, actually. So, to get it is very exciting.”

Day is the second Huskie to earn the conference honor this spring as Kelsey Hildreth, freshman long-distance runner, won the award Jan. 13 after breaking the school’s indoor 3K record.

Day and the Huskies conclude the indoor portion of their schedule Friday and Saturday at the MAC Indoor Championships in Mount Pleasant, Mich.
