NIU track and field: Huskies take Chicagoland Outdoor Championship crown

Track and field won the Chicagoland Outdoor Championship for the second time in four years this weekend.

The Huskies took first place out of 22 teams at the meet, which was hosted by the College of DuPage from Friday to Saturday afternoon in Glen Ellyn. NIU scored 151 points to edge out second-place Olivet Nazarene by 17 points.

The Huskies recorded 19 top five finishes.

Event winners

The Huskies won five events over the weekend.

• Senior Latesha Bigby won the heptathlon with 5,110 points.

• The four-by-100-meter relay team took first place in 46.69 seconds.

• Senior Julianne Cronin won the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.59 seconds.

• Freshman Kelsey Hildreth won the 5K run in 17:13.59.

• Senior Michaela Dwyer took first in the high jump, clearing 1.63 meters.

Heptathlon

Bigby (5,110 points), sophomore Claudette Day (5,005 points) and sophomore Logan Tillmon (4,166 points) competed in their first heptathlon of the outdoor season this weekend, placing first, second and third, respectively.
