Interfraternity Council rules changed so male students could skip a mass rush and instead sign up to rush with individual fraternities, according to a Feb. 4, 1966, Northern Star article.
Following the change, students could sign up to rush in the office of the dean of men and pay a $2 rush fee. Men were still encouraged to go through rush.
“Most of them will still go through formal rush,” said IFC rush chairman John Leinweber, according to the article.
Leinweber added that it is “advisable and encouraged” to rush so students could be provided with an objective view of what fraternities provide.
