Subzero temperatures expected to take two-day break

An arctic blast that dropped Wednesday’s low to -12 degrees will dissipate Friday, but the break from subzero temperatures will be short lived.

A warm front is expected to arrive Friday in DeKalb, raising the low to above 15 degrees. It will continue into Saturday, said NIU meteorologist Gilbert Sebenste. Another arctic blast is expected to hit DeKalb Saturday evening with the possibility of snow and subzero temperatures.

“It’s our time to be cold after a lame December and a tame January,” Sebenste said.

With temperatures being near record cold for February, Sebenste said he doesn’t foresee warmer weather until March.
