Track and field sits in third place at the MAC Indoor Championships after the first day, which was highlighted by sophomore Claudette Day’s first-place finish in the pentathlon.

The Huskies racked up 25 team points Friday in Mount Pleasant, Mich. The two-day championships conclude today.

Day scored 3,838 points to become the first student-athlete in school history to win the pentathlon at the MAC Indoor Championships. She’s only NIU’s third indoor MAC champion in any event. Day picked up 10 team points for NIU with her first-place finish.

Senior Latesha Bigby finished third in the pentathlon (3,766 points) to pick up an additional six team points for NIU in the opening event.

Freshman Kelsey Hildreth earned six team points for the Huskies with her third-place finish in the 5K run (16:53.03).

The distance medley relay team of seniors Julianne Cronin and Jamie Burr, junior Hannah Savage and freshman Lorena Martin took sixth place (12:03.24) to tack on an additional three points.
