You shall not pass up these strong winter break movies

By Andrew Roberts

From Middle-earth to North Korea, the diverse geography in upcoming movies is giving me motivation to survive finals week.

“The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies:” Dec. 17

This is it: the thrilling conclusion to the Hobbit trilogy. Director Peter Jackson has given us some incredible films over the years, and this one will be no different.

If you are a Lord of the Rings fan or even someone wanting to be part of something huge and possibly historic, this is the film you want to see. The battle is going to be one of the biggest on-screen clashes the world has seen. That may be a bit dramatic, but all I know is I will have my axe ready to jump in and join in the glorious conflict.

“The Interview:” Dec. 25

It must be an incredible thing to know your film has angered an entire nation. The newest film starring the hilarious duo of James Franco and Seth Rogen is set to be released.

The characters portrayed by Franco and Rogen are given the task of assassinating the dictator of North Korea. As you can expect, this did not go over too well in North Korea when the movie was announced, with the government even going as far as requesting President Barack Obama to stop the release of the film.

For international controversy alone, “The Interview” looks like something that needs to be seen. Knowing Franco and Rogen, they’ll make it hilarious, as well. But, maybe it won’t be as hilarious in North Korea.

“A Most Violent Year:” Dec. 31

“A Most Violent Year” is set in 1981, which was perhaps one of the most violent years in the history of New York City.

Oscar Isaac plays an immigrant who wishes to use this violence to help his family and bring success to his business. Jessica Chastain also stars in this crime drama.

For those craving to see a potentially award-winning film with vastly talented actors and actresses with a unique and dark plot, this is the film for you. “A Most Violent Year” will hopefully serve as an excellent end to an incredible year for movies.
