Fire causes $10K in smoke damage

A Monday fire caused $10,000 in smoke damage in a residence in the 400 block of East High Street.
The Sycamore Fire Department responded to a reported fire at 12:23 p.m. and encountered a burning dehumidifier unit in the house’s basement, according to a news release.
No injuries were reported and the fire has been ruled an accident.
The dehumidifier was identified as one of 2.5 million units in the United States being recalled by the Consumer Products Safety Commission, according to the release.
The recalled units involve models ranging from 20-70 pints under several brands. Residents can visit the CPS website at 1.usa.gov/1rJeCCU to see if their unit needs to be returned for a refund.
