Police say Nicholle Martinez, 41, of Sycamore, stabbed an acquaintance of her estranged husband, leading to charges of attempted first degree homicide.

At about 4 a.m. Saturday, officers responded to a report of an attack in progress in the 1300 block of Sycamore Road. The caller reported a person had been stabbed. The officers located a female victim bleeding from puncture wounds to her neck and additional injuries to her head and face.

The officers identified the suspect, Martinez, at the scene and took her into custody. Police said the investigation revealed Martinez attempted to kill the victim due to a marital dispute.

The victim was transported to the Kishwaukee Community Hospital where she was treated for her injuries and released.
