Trendy fall shoes keep feet warm, stylish
September 21, 2014
Replicating runway trends on campus can be tricky, especially when it comes to footwear.
The shoes I dream about are often overpriced and/or impractical. Luckily, there are trendy, practical and affordable shoe styles for men and women to flaunt on or off campus.
Military and grunge
The combat boot has been around for years and it’s not going away anytime soon.
These boots are perfect wardrobe staples because they add style to simple jeans and T-shirts or can be the cherry on top to ’90s, punk-inspired flannels and ripped jeans.
Grunge Dr. Martens-esque boots haven’t lost their relevance. While it makes sense to splurge on quality combat or grunge boots, you can still find cheaper, equally stylish alternatives.
Splurges: Steve Madden, Dr. Martens, Opening Ceremony

Canvas sneakers
Sneakers are another wardrobe staple with canvas being especially on-trend this season.
Go for simple, classic styles that aren’t exploding with colors. Canvas sneakers are cheap, easy and comfortable and keep any outfit looking casual and cool. Ladies can take it up a notch with sneaker wedges or embrace their inner Sporty Spice with chunky flat-form kicks
Splurges: Nike, Adidas, SUPRA, Macbeth
Steals: Converse, H&M, American Eagle, Urban Outfitters
Fashion-forward statement shoe
If you’re really looking to turn heads, try a statement shoe.
For women, this can mean a fierce, leather or suede over-the-knee boot, chunky platform lace-up boots, or simple ankle booties with cutouts or metal hardware.
Men should try leather or suede oxfords, boat shoes or lace-up ankle boots in black, blues and rich browns. Creepers, or lace-up shoes with thick crepe soles, are a perfect fall option for daring men and women, too.
Splurges: Jeffrey Campbell, T.U.K., Topshop, Frye
