Former NIU quarterback Chandler Harnish was signed to the Minnesota Vikings’ practice squad Monday, according to a Minnesota Vikings news release.

Harnish set 30 school rushing, passing and total offense records as the Huskies’ starting quarterback from 2008 to 2011.

After his standout career at NIU, Harnish was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts with the final pick (No. 253) of the 2012 NFL Draft. He spent the majority of 2012 and 2013 on the Colts’ practice squad and was released on Aug. 30 during the team’s final roster cuts.

The Vikings released wide receiver Donte Foster to make room for Harnish. Teddy Bridgewater and Christian Ponder are the two quarterbacks on the Vikings’ roster as veteran Matt Cassel is now on the injured reserve list.
