Transition into spring with light, floral pieces
April 15, 2014
Instead of dressing in denial, incorporate spring and summer trends into outfits that are appropriate for inconsistent weather.
Unfortunately, DeKalb weather is anything but consistent, and wind can be the difference between a nice day and a chilly one. Luckily, there are ways for men and women to look like it’s a summer day without compromising comfort or warmth.
Women’s fashion at the past few seasons of New York Fashion Week has been heavily inspired by menswear, making the “boyfriend jean” — or loose-fitting, distressed jean — fashionable.
These jeans are the perfect transition piece for spring because they flatter every body type and they balance out form-fitting or cropped tops. They pair well with almost any style of shoe, all while giving you the same effortless, summery look denim shorts do.
The best part is while the legs usually come rolled up for a cropped look, they can be rolled down in cooler weather or when DeKalb winds take over.
The men’s runways for spring and summer were heavy on brightly colored tropical and floral prints on tops and bottoms. A great way to take advantage of this summer trend in DeKalb’s fluctuating temperatures is through printed and patterned button-downs. They are easy to find with short or long sleeves and in everything from bright to subtle patterns.
Printed and patterned button-downs can be worn alone with shorts or jeans or paired with a solid blazer or spring jacket, making them appropriate for any occasion or temperature.
Regardless of your style, layering is key. A warm spring knit, sweatshirt, jacket or blazer can be paired with either of these pieces to keep you warm without changing your look.
If all else fails and you’re forced to bundle up, remember pastels and warm colors freshen up any outfit.
