By Frank Gogola

Junior Amanda Corral charges to Sports’ No. 4 Athlete of 2013-2014 after thriving at shooting guard, her natural position, in her third season with women’s basketball.

Corral garnered All-MAC Third Team honors, becoming the first Huskie to earn All-MAC recognition since former guard Marke Freeman in 2010-11.

Corral was named to the Academic All-MAC Team for the second-straight season. She is the first Huskie in program history to earn the honor twice.

Corral paced the Huskies with 13.5 points per game, a career high, and 1.1 steals per game. She averaged 4.1 rebounds, a career-best 2.3 assists and career-high 0.3 blocks per game.

Corral became the 27th Huskie in program history to score 1,000 points in her career, reaching the plateau against Central Michigan on Feb. 22 with a 23-point performance.

“… I think Amanda just shows incredible toughness,” said head coach Kathi Bennett, according to a Feb. 25 Northern Star article. “She never gets tired. She just goes and goes and goes. She’s kind of relentless that way. I think she’s a very unique player and does so much for us.”
