No. 10 Athlete of the Year: Sarah Angelos

By Steve Shonder

Sarah Angelos comes in as Sports’ No. 10 athlete of 2013-2014 thanks to her record-setting and team-leading play for volleyball.

As middle blocker, Angelos was recognized for her strong play with a second First Team All-MAC honor. She led the Huskies with a .305 attack percentage and was second in kills per set average with 3.48.

Her durability across her career greatly aided the Huskies as she ended her senior year as the NCAA leader in sets played with 514.

“It’s awesome; it’s a pretty big honor,” Angelos said. “I look at [the top 10 athletes lists] every year and think, ‘How can I be on this?’ I feel like Northern has a lot of great athletes, so I feel honored to be considered one of the 10 best.”

Angelos’ play on the court wasn’t the only the reason Angelos stands out among NIU athletes. She served as a mentor to freshman Jenna Radtke, who was named to the MAC All-Freshman Team, throughout the season.

“Every experience of my life that I’m most proud of and have been a part of has been through Huskie volleyball and being a part of this program. It means everything to me,” Angelos said, according to a Nov. 25 Northern Star article.
