Students to meet, talk retention rate

By Northern Star Staff

A town meeting where students can discuss NIU’s retention rate will be held Wednesday.

The meeting is 2 to 3:15 p.m. in DuSable Hall, Room 440, and attendees will discuss the issue of students not returning to NIU, according to a flier promoting the event.

Students of COMS 220: Rhetoric and Public Issues will be present, as will the course’s communications professor, Janice Hamlet, who will join the discussion.

NIU spokesman Paul Palian said NIU had a 71 percent retention rate in fall 2010, but that has since decreased, according to a March 17 Northern Star article.

Sarah Stuebing, NIU’s Student Lincoln Laureate, will moderate.
