Student Spotlight: Sophomore pursues pharmacy, skydiving

By Jack Manning

Sophomore biology major Taylor McDonald hopes to skydive one day — if he’s not too busy procrastinating.

Student Spotlight is a once-weekly series that highlights campus individuals.

Northern Star: Why did you choose the major you did?

Taylor McDonald: Well, I’m interested in doing pharmacy. That is, I want to become a pharmacist. You have to get a four-year degree for that, so I’m just going with biology since it’s the study of life, which I find interesting.

NS: What are your plans for the next five years?

TM: I’m hoping to graduate by 2016 and then go to pharmacy school at UIC.

NS: What part of NIU have you liked the most?

TM: I really enjoy the football games and the sports. They’re not all great, but the football team is pretty good. I’ve been to every home game, and I wanted to go to the MAC game but I can’t because of classes.

NS: What is something few people know about you?

TM: I can kind of speak German. I took four years [of German] in high school, and it was something that I hoped to pursue in college, but there are too many things in the way.

NS: What is something you would like to do before you die?

TM: I have always wanted to go skydiving. Hopefully I can do that before I die and then not die while doing it.

NS: What advice would you give to fellow students?

TM: The worst thing you can do as a student is procrastinate. It’s just best to get everything done early. I learned that this year.
