Jerseys to support military

The football team will show its support for military veterans at Wednesday’s game against Ball State.

Football players will wear patriotic jerseys during the game. Athletics will auction off the jerseys for charity, with proceeds going to Active Heroes.

Active Heroes is dedicated to connecting and helping America’s military families through financial assistance, leadership training and physical and mental therapy, among other things, according to its website.

“The jerseys are going to a really great cause, and it is an honor to wear the jerseys, but I am more focused on the game,” said junior fullback Rob Sterling.

Trevor Cipriano, assistant director of Football Operations and Recruiting, said the auction would direct attention to veterans and excite players and recruits by giving the team a new, albeit temporary, look.

Freshman running back Jordan Huff said the uniform is black with red stripes on the right shoulder and stars on the opposite holder.

Cipriano said 100 percent of the jersey sales will go to Active Heroes.
