“Bangerz” combines dance hits, deep lyrics

Miley Cyrus’ “Bangerz” illustrates raw confessions of her recent split with Liam Hemsworth.

The album is a journey of love gone wrong. The first track, “Adore you,” is a slow-tempo song expressing love and admiration for someone. Its catchy chorus and deep, emotional lyrics allow the listener to connect to this sweet song.

Cyrus’ album isn’t all slow. “Bangerz” contains some up-beat and fun tracks. Smash hit “We Can’t Stop” peaked at No. 2 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. The track also broke a VEVO record on YouTube. “We Can’t Stop” is a party anthem and in some ways a song about breaking free and doing what you want. Another song that embodies this same kind of empowerment is “FU.” Although the song describes a girl finding out her man is cheating, it’s got a very strong, punchy beat mixed with some Skrillex-like mixes. Cyrus sings in a semi-angry tone; however, this adds more to the song and the lyrics.

Going along with the feel-good songs, “#GETITRIGHT,” produced by Pharrell, is a light-hearted dance song that is sure to make you whistle along. This addictive, up-tempo song is something I couldn’t stop listening or dancing around my room to. Lastly, there’s the remarkable combo of Cyrus and Britney Spears in the song “SMS (Bangerz).” I couldn’t get over how awesome it was that Miley got such an incredible pop icon on her album. Also produced by Pharrell, this is another song to blast in your car while cruising around DeKalb. The song has a bit of a hip hop and pop-fusion feel that did not disappoint.

“Bangerz” was a great album except for “4×4.” The track was confusing and didn’t belong with the other songs. It has a strange country flare to it and felt out of place.

Despite the track, the album was definitely a bang. If you’re looking for some feel-good music to dance to, “Bangerz” is for you.
