Student spotlight: Football makes student smile
October 24, 2013
Jade Burns, sophomore athletic training major, loves cheering at the football games and hopes to go to Australia one day before she dies.
Student Spotlight is a once-weekly series that highlights campus individuals.
Northern Star: Why did you choose the major you did?
Jade Burns: I’m really interested in the health services, and choosing my patients to be with sports was necessary because I’ve been around sports my whole life, so it was an interest of mine.
NS: What is something you are proud of?
JB: Making it on the NIU cheer team. It’s really busy, but it’s a lot of fun. I get to do a lot of things, like go to the Orange Bowl for free. There are just a lot of cool things that I’ve gotten to do with it that I wouldn’t have been able to do in college if I wasn’t a part of the cheer team.
NS: What are your plans for the next five years?
JB: Graduating college is a big one, and I want to get a job at a high school as an athletic trainer.
NS: What part of NIU have you liked the most?
JB: Cheering at the football games.
NS: What is your favorite game?
JB: Risk.
NS: What is something few people know about you?
JB: That I have four siblings besides myself.
NS: What advice would you give to fellow students?
JB: To make a big effort to meet as many people as you can, and get involved in more than just one thing.
