Pass: ‘Children of the Corn’ sketch show to mix culture, fun, fright

Rather than getting drunk all Halloween weekend, do something with less alcohol but just as much entertainment.

The School of Theatre and Dance seniors are hosting a sketch comedy show every night of the holiday weekend.

The event will feature “the perfect marriage of pop culture and well-known Halloween horror movie formulas,” according to a Friday NIU Today news release.

The festivities will include a costume contest, a raffle to pie a graduating senior theater major in the face and a promising mix of laughter and terror.

“Children of the Corn” isn’t only cleverly named; it sounds like the perfect way to spend a night during the upcoming Halloween weekend. Grab a good costume, bring a friend and enjoy yourself.

Fail: Basics of PowerPoint workshop to take place a few years late

If you’ve somehow never run into PowerPoint before, you can learn how to use it this morning at Founders Memorial Library.

From 9 to 10:30 a.m., there will be a tutorial on the Microsoft Office 2010 program for those who want to learn the basics of PowerPoint.

It’s funny to me seeing such a simple program having a tutorial now, rather than say, 10 years ago.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for spreading the wondrous understanding of technology, but I just can’t help but laugh as I look back on making slideshows in gradeschool. Though, my mom just figured out Microsoft Word last month, so I guess it happens.

If you’re finally coming out of your technology shell, allow me to be the first to say, “Welcome.”
