On Friday, former NIU offensive coordinator Mike Dunbar died, losing his battle with cancer.

Dunbar started off spring 2012 as former head coach Dave Doeren’s offensive coordinator but had to step down to focus on his health in the fall.

In his 36-year coaching career, Dunbar held a number of positions, including offensive coordinator at NIU, Minnesota, University of California and fellow MAC school Toledo.

Dunbar was also head coach at Northern Iowa and Central Washington.
