Peters, group submit pension proposal
NIU President John G. Peters gave his annual State of the University Address in Altgeld Hall on October 11, 2012. In his speech he announced his resignation.

NIU President John Peters and other senior administrators have developed a plan to help stabilize the State Universities Retirement System (SURS).
The plan would feature a gradual shift to being funded entirely by its users by 2044.
The system is currently partially funded by the state.
