Crafty mods for ‘Minecraft’
April 2, 2013
“Minecraft” players have come up with more creative structures, collaborated on projects and contraptions that seem impossible.
What do these seemingly unimaginable structures consist of? The Titanic, a few dozen marriage proposals, and an arithmetic logic unit are just a few of the projects that can be found on “Minecraft.” No big deal, right?
The “mega-structures” players have made on “Minecraft” are bigger than you can imagine. The players who make them must have a whole lot of free time. Each structure is so big, it takes hours to plan and quite possibly weeks to put together. On Geekosystem.com, James Plafke lists off some of the structures he’s seen, which include the Reichstag building, Taj Mahal, the USS Enterprise from Star Trek and the Kanto region from the Pokémon series. I feel like I haven’t used my time wisely on “Minecraft” like these guys. I usually just build a few mansions, make a small replica of my dorm or spread TNT all over the map. Maybe next time I play, I’ll make a replica of the NIU campus.
Projects in “Minecraft” are fun and time-consuming. Over the past two years, romantic gamers have proposed to their loved ones using a well-thought out map. Some of the proposals include using signs and rollercoasters leading to the big question, “Will you marry me?”
Andy Kelly from PCGamer.com, made a list of creations called “10 Incredible Minecraft Creations.” The list includes a marriage proposal by a game developer at BioWare, to his girlfriend, who happens to also be a game developer at BioWare. Another contraption on the list is the previously mentioned arithmetic logic unit, or ALU. The video of the ALU is by Youtuber Theinternetftw who states, “This is the first part of a planned 16-bit computer that will run entirely in Minecraft.” I’m actually jealous of this man’s skill to the point that I wish I played this game earlier in my life.
It seems almost any game can be modified, or “modded,” nowadays. Youtuber “TheAtlanticCraft” has found a mod called “RC Mod” which allows the player to take control of mini remote-controlled submarines, speedboats and helicopters. If you combine that with creativity and race tracks, I’m sure hours will be spent in the most fun way possible.
When I first saw “Minecraft,” I thought it was a lame building game. But when I played it, I started to appreciate every single detail that the developers put into it. The gameplay, exploration and even the music just made me feel peaceful. I highly recommend playing it and checking out the creations of other players.
