With more than 30 years of service under his belt, Jonathan Lehuta, Navy veteran and NIU Veterans Club adviser, has been named Veteran of the Month of April by the Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs.

Lehuta serves as master of ceremonies for the DeKalb Memorial Day parade. He’s also a founding member of the DeKalb County Veterans Assistance Commission. The DeKalb County veteran began his service in 1974 as a weather observer. He went on to obtain his degree in meteorology. He continued to serve as a weather officer in Spain, Illinois and California. He served on the USS Okinawa.
