Students joined Kid Cudi in the “Pursuit of Happiness” at his concert 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Convocation Center.

Kid Cut Up took the stage first and set the tone for the rest of the night’s entertainment. The DJ opened up with a set that included remixes of top hits like “Thrift Shop” and “Suit & Tie.” At one point, he brought three audience members on stage and they led the crowd in “The Harlem Shake.”

King Chip was the next performer on stage. He was all over the place, running from one side of the stage to the other. King Chip was involved in the music and with the crowd by getting crazy: He jumped, danced and had fun.

“I have been listening to [Cudi] for many years and I am so excited to finally see him live,” said Brian Solis, 16, of St. Charles.

Once Kid Cudi appeared, the whole stadium erupted in nonstop screaming, the fans went crazy. The crowd was chanting from the moment he got on stage until his exit an hour later. Cudi danced non-stop. He even went into the audience multiple times throughout the night to dance with audience members and make sure everyone was having a great time. At one point, Cudi told the audience he wanted everyone to leave looking like they came to the craziest party of their lives.

Toward the end of his set Cudi took a moment to tell the crowd if they believe in themselves they can achieve anything. He said even if someone tells you no, just go ahead and do your dream. The final song of the night was “Pursuit of Happiness,” and the crowd erupted in cheers once it came on.

Once the song was over he played an extended version of “Pursuit of Happiness (Steve Aoki Dance Remix).” Cudi ran straight to the audience again and grabbed people’s hands.

“Kid Cudi is so good live; he puts on a great show,” said junior psychology major Allison Heath said.
