Re:New Dekalb to host annual community breakfast
March 19, 2013
The Easter Bunny will be in town early this year for breakfast with children and their families.
Re:New DeKalb will host its annual holiday event “Breakfast with the Bunny” Saturday at the Egyptian Theatre, 135 N. Second St. The event is sponsored by Thrivent Financial.
Last year, the event was held at The Lincoln Inn, 240 E. Lincoln Highway, but it sold out. Lindsey Engelsman, Re:New DeKalb marketing director, said the organization wanted to move the location to allow more people to participate.
“We ultimately moved to the Egyptian Theatre due to space constraints,” Engelsman said. “Last year, we had only two seatings for breakfast that could hold 40 per seating. We had more than 80 people who wanted tickets and we chose a bigger venue this year to accommodate everyone.”
The breakfast meal for the event will be catered by Lincoln Inn. It will include eggs, French toast, cereal, fruits and more. Lincoln Inn owner Bill McMahon said the restaurant was in charge of the menu for the event.
“Since we are a breakfast place in downtown DeKalb, we took one of our breakfast buffet menus that we cater often and modified it to be kid friendly,” McMahon said.
After the breakfast, participants will have the opportunity to meet the Easter Bunny, participate in crafts and games, and watch a special showing of the movie “Hop” at the Egyptian Theatre.
Tickets for the breakfast are $7 for children 12 and younger and $10 for anyone older. These tickets include the breakfast, crafts and movie showing.
Heather Carr, membership and marketing director of the Egyptian Theatre, said there is an opportunity available for members of the community to see the movie without participation in the breakfast. Children younger than 12 can watch the movie for $3 and children older than 12 will pay $5 for tickets, Carr said.
Tickets are available for purchase by Thursday at the Egyptian Theatre box office, or on its website at www.egyptiantheatre.org.
