‘Chase It for Cancer’ charity glasses for sale
February 11, 2013
Shot glasses are being sold in an effort to raise money for cancer research.
Jesska Lee, sophomore English education major, set out to raise money to be donated to cancer research after witnessing the effects cancer has on those inflicted with the disease and their loved ones.
“I’ve had to see a lot of people go through losing someone they’re close to due to cancer,” Lee said. “It’s affected families around me as well as my own.”
Lee decided she wanted to do something to help fund the research going into finding a cure for cancer. Living on a college campus, she used her location to her advantage.
“I’m trying to focus on the college environment,” Lee said. “Everyone knows that kids in college want shot glasses, whether it’s for decoration or use. It’s a good way to get college kids to pay to help the cause.”
Though Lee set out on her own to start this venture, she enlisted the help of Erik Rozanski, sophomore marketing and social psychology major.
“My dad passed away from cancer in September,” Rozanski said. “Jesska had this idea to help raise money and asked if I wanted to go in on it with her. I thought it was a really clever idea and a good way just to remind people of their loved ones and raise awareness.”
Lee and Rozanski are selling the shot glasses, which have “Chase it for cancer!” printed on them, for $5. For an additional $1, the glasses can be personalized with a message on the back. All profits go directly to the American Cancer Society.
Sororities and fraternities on campus have been the largest buyers for Chase It For Cancer so far.
“As of right now, my fraternity has ordered over a hundred of them,” Rozanski said. “One sorority has ordered over 700 and another has ordered over a hundred, too.”
