DeKalb city manager announces intent to retire
February 27, 2013
City Manager Mark Biernacki has announced he will retire on June 14.
“The timing is right for both myself personally and the city with a new mayor and a change in the new council, fresh new ideas will be able to be brought in,” Biernacki said. “A new manager is something that they deserve.”
Biernacki said that after his retirement, he will catch up on hobbies. He hopes to travel and volunteer.
Mayor Kris Povlsen said Biernacki has served the city well.
“His leadership will be missed,” Povlsen said.
According to a news release from the city, Biernacki has worked for the city for 19 years–nine as city manager and 10 as community development director.
“…In leaving at this time, the community can benefit from the fresh ideas and fresh energy that a new city manager will bring when assisting the newly elected mayor and city council as they formulate their vision and direction for the city,” Biernacki said in a letter to Povlsen.
