The DeKalb Fire Department responded a house fire at 1707 Earl Court on Monday, extinguishing the fire within approximately 20 minutes and rescuing the family cat in the process.

According to a news release from the department, the fire was accidental and no injuries were reported, though the estimated cost of the fire in damages is $30,000. The DeKalb Fire Department was assisted on the scene by the Sycamore and Malta fire departments. Crews were on the scene for approximately two hours to aid in overhaul and investigation of the site.
