School of Music to host ‘Opera Theatre Scenes’

By Deanna Frances

The School of Music’s Opera Theatre will be performing Opera Theatre Scenes at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday in the Recital Hall of the Music Building. The program features scenes from many different operas like Carmen and Romeo and Juliet.

The cast includes about 10 vocal students who rehearsed for six weeks to pull the show together. The performance will offer many different aspects of opera.

“It’s big and dramatic, and there are funny moments, too,” said Cavya Sharma, senior vocal performance major.

This performance offers the vocal students the opportunity to perform in many different languages, like French, German and Italian.

Sharma said the cast members have had a great time working on the performance and hope their energy will show through. The performers also had their own reasons why people should come and see the show.

“It will be fun and very memorable,” Sharma said.

The performance is directed by Anthony Perrella with music direction by Lucia Matos. The performance will also be broadcast online by live webcast at www.niu.edu/music/media/webcasts/index.shtml.
